Constitutional Amendments

The deadline is quickly approaching to return your proposed amendments to the IASC Constitution and Handbook. Completed forms must be returned to IASC President Brayden Turner at the address listed on the form, which can be located on the IASC website on the Publications page.

Advanced Workshop

As many of you know, the Advanced Workshop at Lake Williamson in Carlinville had to be postponed due to the nasty weather across the state. This workshop has been rescheduled for February 10-12th. The one-day advanced workshop will still be held in Byron on February 11th, as well. There is still time and space to register for either event (deadline February 3rd)- see the IASC website for registration info (listed under Calendar page and the Publications) page. Hope to see many students at both workshops!

IASC Board Meeting – January 2012

The next IASC state board meeting will be held Saturday, January 28th at the IHSA offices in Bloomington. The meeting will begin at 11:00am. The day will also be filled with state officer applicants and their advisors meeting with the credentials committees for their interviews. What a great turnout of candidates! Don’t worry if you didn’t apply early – you can still run from the floor at the state convention in May for any of the positions. Please see the IASC website for more information.

STATE CONVENTION NEWS!

Greetings from the IASC! We hope the first part of your school year has gone well. It’s already time to start thinking about our annual IASC State Convention. Carlyle High School is the proud host of this year’s convention, “Surviving the Trip to Leadership.” On behalf of CHS and the IASC, we extend an invitation to your student council to join us at the Springfield Hilton Hotel in Springfield, May 3-5, 2012. Registration materials have been sent out and are also available on the IASC website under “Publications.”

Over the course of three days, students will gain the tools necessary to survive the trip to leadership. Whether it’s our engaging speakers, interactive discussion groups, or the opportunity to network with students from across the state, students and advisors alike will leave with a better sense of their own leadership abilities, and will return home full of information and knowledge to re-energize their councils and schools.

For more information on this year’s convention, visit the convention website at convention.illinoisstuco.org, or contact Macie Guthrie, IASC Convention Secretary, at mguthrie@illinoisstuco.org.

Summer Workshop

While the abnormally cool temperatures this spring might make it seem as if summer is still a long way off, summer is quickly approaching.  With the warm temperatures comes family vacations, time spent with friends, and of course, the IASC Summer Workshop!

This year, the workshop will be held from July 25-28, 2011, on the campus of Millikin University in Decatur, IL.  Student who attend this workshop walk away with a wealth of information that they can bring back to their schools and councils, and are well-versed in communication skills, teambuilding, leadership styles, sportsmanship and much more.

The cost for this workshop is $250.00 for IASC members who register by June 22, or $275 for late registrations, or registrations from non-member schools.  Complete this registration form from www.illinoisstuco.org/assets/docs/workshops/Summer11.doc, and mail with a check to Lorie Demry, IASC Workshop Director.
